Uncovering the Legend of the Talking Buddha Image at Sukhothai Historical Park

According to legend, when King Naresuan the Great led his army to suppress the rule of Sawankhalok, a gathering of soldiers gathered at Wat Sri Chum. This battle was fought between Thais, which discouraged the soldiers from fighting.

King Naresuan the Great devised a plan to boost the morale of his soldiers by having one soldier climb the stairs to the back of the Buddha image and offer words of encouragement. This led to the creation of the legend of the "Talking Buddha." Wat Sri Chum is also a sacred site, where the water pouring ceremony was held.
