Surabaya, Indonesia – not only a must-visit place for volcano tours, but also worth exploring locally!

Yesterday, I successfully arrived in Surabaya, East Java Island, Indonesia, starting a new journey. Many people treat Surabaya as a transit point to Mount Bromo and Mount Semeru, but Surabaya itself is also worth visiting. Surabaya is the capital of East Java Province and the second-largest city in Indonesia. If you come here, the following classic attractions are definitely worth a visit!

The Zheng He Mosque in Surabaya is the world’s first mosque named after Zheng He. Located at No. 2 Shading Street, it is a five-story building designed in a pagoda style, featuring strong Chinese cultural elements. For local Muslim believers, the Zheng He Mosque holds irreplaceable spiritual value.

The Surabaya Heroes Monument stands over 40 meters tall and is shaped like an inverted nail. Inside, there is a museum open to visitors. The monument is also a landmark of Surabaya and an excellent subject for photography. Photography enthusiasts should not miss it.

The Surabaya Submarine Monument was originally a submarine that began service in 1962. After retiring in 1990, it was converted into the current museum open to tourists. Visitors can learn about Surabaya’s past history and appreciate the bravery of the city’s people in resisting colonial rule.

Surabaya Zoo, established in 1912, is very famous locally and attracts millions of visitors annually. The most distinctive feature of Surabaya Zoo is that all the animals come from the Southeast Asia region. When you are there, you will feel a strong Southeast Asian atmosphere.

The Four Points by Sheraton Surabaya and The Westin Surabaya are the only integrated hotels in Surabaya, both located in the same building. The lobbies of both hotels lead directly to Indonesia’s largest shopping center, Pakuwon Mall, making shopping and travel very convenient! This time, we booked two nights each at The Westin and Four Points by Sheraton. Ambassador members were upgraded to suites, and the room views and hotel facilities, including the pool, restaurants, spa, and bar, were all excellent. Highly recommended!
