Lake Tai Birdwatching Map | These 3 Niche Spots Gave Me My Best Shots of the Year!

As a travel blogger who has explored all over Jiangnan, Lake Tai's wetland ecosystem always surprises me. Avoiding the crowds, these three spots are truly hidden gems for birdwatching enthusiasts!

1. Dongshan Luxiang Pier
· Highlight: Lake Tai's best waterbird observation point
In the early morning before the mist dissipates, hundreds of Eurasian Coots and Spot-billed Ducks swim among the reeds. Bring a telephoto lens, and you can capture the spectacular sight of cormorants flying in formation overhead.

2. Shadun Port Wetland
· Secret Tip: Excellent for backlit photography in the afternoon
The shoals here are a paradise for plovers and sandpipers. Avocets forage with their scimitar-like long beaks, and Little Ringed Plovers scurry with tiny steps. It's recommended to wear camouflage for discreet photography and capture adorable moments.

3. Lake Tai National Wetland Park
· Bonus: Rare bird species can be seen year-round
Besides regular visitors like Great Egrets and Grey Herons, in winter, you might even encounter the endangered Baer's Pochard. The boardwalk through the water forest offers expansive views, perfect for beginners.

Tips:
July-October is the best birdwatching period.
Always keep quiet to avoid disturbing the birds.
Bring a lens of 28-300mm or longer.

Share your beautiful birdwatching photos in the comments! 📸
