When you come to Sydney, you might skip shopping, but you absolutely cannot miss QVB! It’s not just a mall; it’s a living artifact and a piece of art. Treat QVB as a must-stop on your Sydney City Walk. Even if you only have an hour, it’s enough to feel its grandeur and history. Remember to look around and look up—you will surely be captivated by this "most beautiful shopping mall in the world."
🏛️ QVB in a nutshell
QVB (Queen Victoria Building) is one of the most iconic historic buildings in downtown Sydney, built in 1898. Its exterior is Romanesque style, and the interior is a magnificent Victorian style. Today, it houses over 180 boutique stores in a high-end shopping center. Think of it as a "free museum" to explore, and your experience will be unforgettable!
📃 Must-do checklist
1. Look up! Admire the stunning dome
Stand in the building’s central atrium and look up at the breathtaking central dome. The glass dome and stained glass windows fill the space with dreamy light. This is QVB’s most classic shot.
2. Find the "treasures"! Take photos with the Royal Clock
On the north and south sides of the building, there are two huge hanging clocks—the Royal Clock and the Great Australia Clock. At the top of the hour, the bells chime and intricate puppet shows take place. Don’t miss it.
3. Spiral staircase photo shoot
Inside QVB, there are two century-old spiral staircases perfect for photos. Whether shooting from below looking up or from above looking down, you can easily capture stylish shots with depth and tension.
4. Explore unique shops
Here you’ll find not only international brands but also many Australian local designer brands, jewelry, handicrafts, and specialty souvenir shops. Even if you don’t buy anything, window shopping is a pleasure.
5. Have afternoon tea in the basement
The basement hides QVB’s original foundation and an ancient well. Now, there are some cafes and restaurants here. Enjoy a coffee and feel the blend of history and modernity.
