The Monument of the Blood Compact 🇵🇭🇪🇸

This is the first International treaty between Spain and the Philippines!!!

The Legazpi-Sikatuna Blood Compact or Sandugo (Spanish: Pacto de Sangre) was a blood compact between the Spanish explorer Miguel López de Legazpi and Datu Sikatuna, chieftain of Bohol, on March 16, 1565 to seal their friendship following tribal tradition.

The sculpture re-enacting the Sikatuna-Legazpi blood compact was made by Napeleon Abueva, a Boholano and the National Artist for Sculpture.

The sculptured monument consists of 5 life-sized bronze images of men gathered around a table, with Sikatuna and Legazpi seated and making a toast. Three conquistadores, as witnesses, stand around the table.

We visited in 2019. They sold very few souvenirs here, and the sign behind the monument was missing 2 letters. I hope it's complete now.

Location:
Tagbilaran East Road in the Bool District

No entrance fee.
