The "Yuanzui Shaolai National Trail" is 5.5 kilometers long and can be accessed in both directions. The trail is a popular hiking route at medium altitudes in the central region.
"Yuanzui Mountain - Shaolai Mountain" are two trails that can be walked separately. Please choose according to your physical strength! Among them, Yuanzui Mountain is famous for its steep cliffs, while Shaolai Mountain is named after the Taiwan red maple trees that cover it in autumn. The two mountains are connected along the way, with steep cliffs stretching along the way and overlooking the mountains in the distance. The scenery is really beautiful.
Although Yuanzui Mountain is difficult to climb, it should not be too difficult if you pay attention to the footing and use the rock wall as the main climbing point and ropes as the auxiliary climbing point.
(The guide rope was deliberately damaged a while ago; the Dongshi Forestry Bureau appealed that the guide rope is used to guide the public on the trail to prevent them from getting lost. Climbers are requested not to overuse the guide rope to assist in climbing in order to maintain mountaineering safety.)
Shaolai Mountain (Xiaobaiyue #39) is 2307 meters high. There is a triangulation point on the top of the mountain but no observation. However, there is a forest observation tower from which you can overlook Yuanzui Mountain. In autumn, when the Taiwan red maple trees turn red, the mountains are covered with bright red, which is very beautiful. When the Taiwan azaleas turn red in March and the Taiwan red maple trees turn red in November and December, the "Yuanzui Shaolai National Trail" is crowded with people.
It’s best not to choose to climb Yuanzui Mountain on weekends. It’s so crowded that you’ll feel like you’ve arrived at Ximending! Many novice drivers who are afraid of heights often block the steep sections where cars cannot pass, and are unable to go up or down. We waited on the cliff to cool off for about 1.5 hours due to a traffic jam on the mountain road; our hearts were really more tired than our legs!
When going down the mountain, there are still many climbers going up Yuanzui Mountain. The sunset glow and sea of clouds are unique, but you need to pay more attention to safety!
💞Recommendation reasons: Enjoy the azaleas in March, maple leaves in November and December; even in the hot summer, you can escape the heat
🗓️Itinerary: One day
