Qigu Salt Mountain, located in Qigu District, Tainan, is one of the most iconic sites of Taiwan's salt industry. Originally a major salt field, it transitioned to tourism with the decline of the salt industry. The mountain, rising tens of meters, resembles a snow-capped hill, making it a popular destination for tourists to climb and photograph. The park houses a Salt Museum, showcasing Taiwan's century-old salt-making history and tools, and offers salt sculptures, salt-made souvenirs, and local delicacies such as brine-cured tofu pudding and salt coffee. At sunset, the pure white salt mountain and vast salt fields add to the unique charm. This is not only a great destination for family trips, but also an excellent window into Taiwan's salt industry.
Directions
By car: From downtown Tainan, follow Highway 17 West Coast Highway north and follow the signs to Qigu Salt Mountain. The journey takes approximately 40 minutes.
Public transportation: Take a bus from Tainan Railway Station to Qigu, then transfer to a shuttle bus or taxi.
Recommended time: Visit in the afternoon to enjoy the beautiful sunset at Qigu.
