The Taipei National Railway Museum, formerly the Taipei Locomotive Works, opened in 1935, was once the Taipei Locomotive Works. Once responsible for train repair, assembly, and maintenance, it was nicknamed the "Train Hospital." After being designated a national monument throughout the region in 2015, it was transformed into a museum. The museum's first phase of openings began on July 31, 2025.
Highlights include:
· Extensive Exhibition Areas and Collections: Visit historic buildings such as the Diesel-Electric Workshop (displaying restored rolling stock and machinery), the Main Office (recreating a past office scene and featuring railway cultural exhibits), and the Staff Bathhouse (with a central bathhouse featuring periodic steam showers).
· Dynamic Experiences: On weekends, experience a ride in a restored blue coach on the 650-meter track within the museum.
· Family Fun: The museum features a dedicated children's area with play equipment such as a miniature train and building blocks.
📍 Useful Information
· Opening Hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 9:30 AM - 5:00 PM (Closed Mondays).
· Admission: Admission to the Diesel and Electric Workshop is free, except for the NT$100 entrance fee.
· Transportation: Take the MRT Bannan Line to Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall Station or the Songshan-Xindian Line to Nanjing Sanmin Station, then walk for about 10-15 minutes.
· Official Website: We recommend checking the official website or social media accounts before your trip for the latest exhibitions and event details.
I hope the above information helps you plan your trip. If you're interested in a specific type of train or railway history, I'd be happy to provide more information.
