Every time you pass by Beimen, it's hard not to be captivated by the grand "Taipei Beimen Post Office" nearby! It looks nothing like the typical post offices we visit; instead, it resembles a European museum or courthouse—absolutely majestic. Just standing outside and admiring those massive columns gives off an impressive vibe. 🏛️
One thing to note is that while its exterior is a historical landmark, the interior operates as a fully functional post office. It's bustling with people taking numbers and handling their business, so be mindful not to disturb those conducting their affairs when visiting.
For the best spot to capture a classic photo of the post office alongside Beimen, head to Beimen Plaza. This area is close to Ximending, Taipei Main Station, and Dadaocheng, making it a perfect starting point or stop for a city stroll!
✉️ Atmosphere/Facilities:
Stepping into the first-floor service hall of the post office, the high ceilings and spaciousness will make you go "Wow!" The entire hall is bright and roomy, with terrazzo flooring and classical counters that retain a strong Japanese colonial-era style. Sending mail or handling tasks here feels like a ceremonial experience.
In addition to postal services, there's also a small "Postal Museum Taipei Beimen Branch" located next to the service hall. It showcases some old postal artifacts and stamps. Though small, it's quite interesting and worth a quick visit.
Personally, I love admiring the architectural details from the outside or heading to Beimen Plaza across the street to capture both the Taipei Beimen Post Office and Beimen in one shot.
