Family Trip to Taipei｜Easily Take the Bus to Yangmingshan to Breathe in Nature

Staying around Shilin is really convenient! Just a few steps outside and there’s a bus stop. In about half an hour, you can reach the National Palace Museum, Beitou Hot Springs, and Yangmingshan, which is perfect for hiking with kids. Enjoy the breeze and scenery on the bus ride, and the kids won’t even feel tired～

⛰️Yangmingshan National Park

Yangmingshan is divided into three main mountain ranges: Datun Mountain, Qixing Mountain, and Qingtian Gang. The trails are very well developed, with clear routes and signs. Along the way, there are many small spots to rest or play. Whether you want to take a short, easy walk or challenge a longer route, it’s great for families. There are also hot springs and scenic cafes on the mountain, making for a fulfilling and unhurried day!

🗺️Recommended Family Hiking Routes

There are many route options, and you can refer to the official website map for planning. I’ve included it in the last few pictures, with bus-accessible stops marked in orange～If you don’t want to spend time planning, the official site also offers recommended one-day itineraries, which are very convenient!

This time, I took my child on the route from Fengguikou to Qingtian Gang to Lengshuikeng, about 9 kilometers and around two and a half hours. If the kids have good stamina, you can continue towards Xiaoyoukeng and Erziping, where the scenery is stunning!

📷Must-Stop Spots on the Mountain

You definitely can’t cover all spots in one trip, so it’s best to mark a few you want to visit on the map first, then plan your route:

Hot Springs: Lengshuikeng Public Hot Spring, Qianshan Park Public Hot Spring and Outdoor Pool, and Macao Public Hot Spring. Although mostly frequented by local elders, it’s fun to let kids experience them too!

Dining: Recommended “Qingcaiyuan” for authentic and delicious food; “Shanshang Liao” and “VVG Hideaway” offer comfortable environments, perfect for resting and dining.

Attractions: Yangming Book House is also worth a visit for its cultural atmosphere～

🚗Transportation

Highly recommend taking the bus! It’s more flexible for going up and down the mountain with kids. There are direct buses to Yangmingshan from Taipei Main Station, Jiantan, Shilin, Shipai, and Beitou. It’s best to check real-time bus schedules on Google Maps, but be aware some are minibuses with only three trips a day, so check the times carefully!

On weekdays, it only takes 25 minutes from Shilin to Fengguizui—super fast! But weekends are busier, so if you want to avoid crowds, consider driving up the mountain.

In short, Yangmingshan is a free, open-air classroom of nature. Every visit brings new discoveries, making it perfect for bringing kids to burn off energy💚
