Beitou Hidden Gem Adventure | A Light Journey of Geothermal Wonders and Nature

Today, I visited Sulfur Valley and Lover's Waterfall. Although they are not far from the city, stepping into this steamy landscape felt like leaving the urban rhythm behind and entering a misty, geothermal world.

After taking the MRT to Beitou Station and transferring to the Xinbeitou Line, it was about a 30-minute walk to reach the destination (you can also take a bus, but I chose to walk today to fully immerse myself in the journey). Along the way, there was a gentle breeze, warm sunlight, and a fascinating blend of urban and natural scenery. I even encountered three adorable cats 🐈.

As I entered Sulfur Valley, I was immediately captivated by the raw power of nature. White steam continuously rose from the cracks in the rocks, resembling soft misty dragons swirling in the air. While the air carried a sulfuric scent, it wasn’t as overpowering as at Xiaoyoukeng; instead, it had a faint mineral aroma. The valley is quite expansive, and you can stroll along the wooden boardwalks to closely observe the bubbling geothermal pools and the colorful changes in the rock walls. When sunlight hits the mist, it creates a dreamy, ethereal glow—perfect for unwinding.

After leaving Sulfur Valley, I followed a small path for about ten minutes to reach Lover's Waterfall. Hidden in an unassuming corner of a roadside trail, the waterfall cascades down the rock face, with water droplets creating a fine mist that instantly refreshes and rejuvenates. The sound of the waterfall isn’t loud, but it resonates deeply, like a soothing melody for the soul—especially precious amidst the hustle and bustle of the city.

For most people, Beitou might just be synonymous with hot springs; but today’s journey revealed a different side of this area. The geothermal steam rising from the earth, the gentle sound of the waterfall, and the unexpected encounters with small creatures all remind us that Taipei still holds many hidden corners waiting to be discovered.
