The Great Heavenly Pool in Lanyu is located on a mountain ridge extending northwest from "Da Sen Mountain," the highest peak in southern Lanyu. Originally a volcanic crater, it has transformed into a lake due to rainwater erosion and accumulation. The Tao people of Lanyu call it "DuWa Wa," meaning "Sea of the High Mountains."
Situated at an altitude of approximately 340 meters, the trail to the Great Heavenly Pool spans about 2 kilometers and takes around 3.5 hours for a round trip. Some sections of the trail feature steep slopes and slippery rocks, making it moderately challenging. True to its name, the Great Heavenly Pool is not only the largest "sea (lake)" in the mountains of Lanyu but also a place of taboo for the Tao people. However, in recent years, tourism development has broken these taboos, and the pool has become a must-visit destination due to its stunning scenery and tropical rainforest ambiance. The trail includes four pavilions where hikers can rest according to their pace.
Guided tours for the Great Heavenly Pool trail are also available (you can inquire with your accommodation provider). These tours offer insights into local culture and natural landscapes, making them an excellent choice!
