Wandering Through Beech Wonderland on the National Trail

#chinatravel The Shanmaoju National Trail in Yilan is a seriously dreamy forest walk. It’s best known for the Taiwan beech trees that line the trail like something out of a fairytale. If you visit in autumn, the golden leaves are just wow. Even in other seasons, the towering trees, mossy rocks and misty air make the trail feel magical and peaceful.

The path is well-maintained and not too difficult, so you don’t need to be a hardcore hiker. It’s more of a steady uphill-and-downhill stroll through a rich, green landscape. It can get a bit muddy after rain, so waterproof shoes help a lot. Expect to pass little wooden bridges, forest tunnels and scenic lookout spots where you can just breathe and take it all in.

This trail is perfect for slow walkers, nature lovers and anyone wanting to unplug. Bring water, a snack and just enjoy being surrounded by trees that have probably been standing there longer than you’ve been alive.
