The Stunning Ginkgo Trees of Jin Ci in Golden Autumn

In late autumn, Jin Ci looks like nature has spilled its palette—500-year-old intertwined ginkgo trees don golden armor, a male and a female tree standing opposite each other on either side of the Nannao Spring South Canal. When the wind blows, golden leaves flutter down like a curtain of golden rain, breathtakingly beautiful.

Legend has it that these two ginkgo trees were planted by Wang Qiong, a prominent minister of the Ming Dynasty. After 500 years of wind and rain, they remain lush and thriving. The stone steps and ancient pavilion beneath are carpeted with fallen leaves, rustling underfoot like the keys of a time piano.

Even more delightful, a few plump kittens lounge lazily in the sun or leap chasing falling leaves, adding a lively touch to this scene full of ancient charm.

📸 Best time to shoot: before 10 a.m. or after 3 p.m., when sunlight filters through the branches, creating stunning light and shadow.

👉 Autumn at Jin Ci is a dance between history and nature. If you visit Taiyuan in autumn, don’t miss this “golden feast”—the 500-year-old ginkgo trees are waiting for you to join a timeless rendezvous.
