Lake Biwa, Shiga. Shirahige Shrine - Dreamlike Underwater Torii

Miyajima isn’t the only place with underwater shrines! Shirahige Shrine, located in Takashima City, Shiga Prefecture, is an underwater torii gate built in Lake Biwa and is said to be the oldest shrine in Omi. Shirabe refers to the white beard. The shrine actually enshrines the "God of Longevity", which is said to bring good luck.
There is no direct bus to Shirahige Shrine. I found that "Omi Bus" provides shared taxis for 300 yen (reservation by phone), but I asked the hotel to make a reservation for me but failed, saying that a Japanese mobile phone number is required. I didn't want to spend too much money on a taxi, so I walked from JR Omi Takashima for about 40 minutes. Fortunately, the road was not difficult. Since the torii gate is located on the opposite side of the highway, it is fenced off to avoid danger (there have been accidents before), so visitors are prohibited from approaching, so you can only look at it from the opposite shrine, which is a bit of a pity, but it is still very beautiful. Next time I have the opportunity to visit at dusk, it will definitely be more beautiful. #日本景点 #施贺县
