When you first step into Takayama City, you start from this station full of local colors - Takayama Station. It is not only a transportation hub, but also the starting point of the unique charm of this ancient city.
The exterior of the station is elegantly curved with dark wood, like a smaller version of a traditional Japanese townhouse, leading travelers into the historical atmosphere of the ancient city. As soon as you step out of the station, you can immediately feel the atmosphere of the old city: wooden old houses, stone roads, teahouses and handicraft shops stand along the street, like a moving historical picture scroll slowly unfolding.
The interior of the station is also unique: there are exquisite Hida specialty souvenir shops, and you can taste authentic snacks such as Hida beef cakes and old street black bean snacks during tea time. What's even better is that you can often see rickshaw drivers waiting in full dress in the square in front of the station, using rickshaws to take you through the narrow alleys of the old streets, which is a nostalgic and close to the local cultural experience.
If you want to go deeper into Hida Takayama, the Takayama Jinya, Sanmachi Ancient Street, Miyagawa Morning Market and other attractions opposite the station are all within walking distance, making it an ideal multi-dimensional starting point.
