Travel Purpose
Enjoy the beautiful sea and nature of Kohama Island and Iriomote Island
Day 1
From Ishigaki Airport, head to Ishigaki Port Remote Island Terminal. There are convenience stores and shops around the port, so you can stock up on snacks and drinks there. At the terminal, you can store your luggage for free at the "Haimurubushi Ishigaki Information Desk" until your boat departs. This allows you to shop or have lunch before taking a 30-minute boat ride to Kohama Island. From Kohama Port, a free shuttle bus takes you to Haimurubushi Resort. The hotel features a private beach, a pool, and a full beach resort experience. You can also meet goats and water buffalo at the animal interaction area. The sea is stunningly beautiful, with an impressive blue color.
There are no shops near the hotel, so it’s recommended to prepare everything you need on Ishigaki Island. All meals, including dinner, were enjoyed at the hotel.
Day 2
On this day, travel to Iriomote Island by boat and stay at the Iriomote Hotel by Hoshino Resorts. From Uehara Port, there is a hotel shuttle bus. However, since Ohara Port has a lower cancellation rate, it’s better to use that port, rent a car, and explore the island on your way to the hotel. Iriomote Island is the second-largest island in Okinawa Prefecture, with over 90% covered by subtropical jungle. Take a mangrove cruise and then ride a water buffalo cart to Yubu Island. The impression changes depending on the tide level, and the cart moves at the leisurely pace of the buffalo.
Afterward, check into the Iriomote Hotel by Hoshino Resorts. Relax in a room with a daybed and enjoy a hotel stay. Watch the sunset at "Tsukigahama Beach," located right in front of the hotel. Dinner is also at the hotel. Similar to Kohama Island, there are almost no shops around the hotel.
Day 3
Take a morning stroll along the beach near the hotel and enjoy a leisurely breakfast. After checking out, take a relaxing walk at Hoshizuna Beach before driving to Ohara Port. From there, take a boat, then a bus, and finally a flight back home.
Notes
Be cautious of typhoons. Beach resorts in Okinawa are heavily influenced by weather conditions. Iriomote Island has many insects, so insect repellent is essential.
Transportation
After traveling by boat, public transportation is not well-developed on both Iriomote and Kohama Islands, so renting a car is essential. Alternatively, tours are available for those without a car.
