Bandir Blue Lake was originally a section of the Tashkurgan River. After the construction of the reservoir, it formed a high mountain lake, also known as the Xiabandi Reservoir. The lake water comes from melting snow, deep and serene blue, pure and clear, with a hint of coolness, creating a cold beauty against the surrounding gray-white rocks. The lake water changes color under different seasons, weather, times, and lighting conditions. Sometimes it may be deep blue, sometimes light blue or peacock green. Tiffany blue and purple can also be seen. Indeed, as rumored, its color variability is much better than Baisha Lake, and it is even more stunningly beautiful. Walking along the edge of Bandir Blue Lake, stopping and going, when there is no wind, the lake surface is smooth as a mirror, reflecting the surrounding mountains and the azure sky, giving people a feeling of entering another parallel world.
