Kussharo Lake Sea of Clouds: A Morning Mist Wonderland

Viewing Experience

The observatory has parking and basic facilities, and it's recommended to bring warm clothing as morning temperatures often drop below 10°C. For relaxation, the lakeside Sunayu Onsen provides a unique experience of soaking in hot springs after witnessing the sea of clouds.

Travel Tips
It is advisable to drive or join a guided early morning sea of clouds tour. The road to Tsubetsu Pass is narrow, so exercise caution. Check the weather forecast in advance to avoid thick cloud cover that may obstruct the view. Kussharo Lake is about a 20-minute drive from Mashu Lake and Mount Io, making it ideal for a day trip. Bring a camera and tripod to capture the fleeting beauty of the sea of clouds.
