The Golden Triangle, once an infamous area, is a triangular region at the border of Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos. It was long known for producing opium and other drugs, making it one of the world's main drug-producing areas, which has since been gradually eradicated. Today, the development paths of the three countries differ somewhat: Thailand and Laos have more or less gotten on track, while Myanmar remains notorious internationally.
Check in at the Golden Triangle Archway, overlooking Laos and Myanmar across the river.
The Golden Triangle Archway is made of marble, standing 4 meters tall, with the words "Golden Triangle" engraved in both Thai and English. Visitors eagerly take photos here as a memento.
With the naked eye, you can see the clusters of buildings and neighborhoods in Laos across the river, while Myanmar appears desolate.
Both Myanmar and Laos have casinos here, built by Chinese investors and targeting Chinese customers. The future prosperity of this area will rely on the Chinese.
Across the river, the high-rise buildings of Laos look very modern.
