Traveling from Osaka to Shikoku via Nankai Ferry in just 2 hours

Previously, traveling from Osaka to Shikoku often involved using the JR PASS, taking a train to Okayama and then transferring to Kagawa. This time, I opted for the ferry experience, enjoying the sea breeze and scenic views, and reached Shikoku effortlessly in just two hours.

This route is operated by Nankai Ferry, connecting Wakayama Port to Tokushima Port (downward route) and Tokushima Port to Wakayama Port (upward route). There are eight round trips daily, though occasional maintenance may reduce the number of trips.

For tourists, the most cost-effective option is the "Tokushima Skip" ticket, which includes a Nankai Electric Railway ticket from any location in Osaka city to Wakayama Port, as well as the ferry ticket, all for just 2,500 yen. If you purchase the ferry ticket alone for a non-reserved seat, it costs 2,400 yen, essentially making the train fare free.

Wakayama Port Station is just one stop away from Wakayama City Station. The train schedule is synchronized with the ferry schedule, and the station is connected to the pier via a footbridge, allowing passengers to board the ferry directly upon exiting the station. Inside the ferry, in addition to reserved seating, there are sea-view seats facing the windows, dining area seats, group tatami spaces, and observation seats on the deck.

Since the journey only takes two hours, the ferry provides vending machines selling snacks, instant noodles, drinks, and ice cream. A unique feature is the sale of "ship stamps," allowing collectors to take home a memorable keepsake.

🚗 Nankai Electric Railway vending machines at various stations sell combined train and ferry tickets. For Tokushima, it's "Tokushima Skip," and for Wakayama, it's "Skip."
