Gotokuji Temple's principal image is Shakyamuni Buddha.
It is said to be the family temple of the Ii clan, and contains the graves of the Ii clan, lords of Hikone Domain.
The tomb of Ii Naosuke is also located here, designated as a historic site by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
The temple is also known for its many maneki-neko (beckoning cats). One theory is that it is the birthplace of maneki-neko (beckoning cats).
The number of them is a bit surprising, but when you look closely, you'll see that they come in all different sizes, which is somehow soothing.
