Step Into Old Tokyo: Omoide Yokocho’s Retro Charm

As soon as you leave the west exit of Shinjuku Station and step into the narrow alley lit by neon lights, you'll feel like you've been transported back to the Showa era. The fragrant smell of yakitori fills the air, and in front of the shops, you can see regulars and tourists drinking side by side.
The motsuyaki I ate at the shop I actually went to was juicy and went perfectly with ice-cold beer! The staff were friendly, and it was an atmosphere where you could casually enjoy it even by yourself. I had a good conversation with the man sitting next to me, and he told me, "This place hasn't changed at all since the end of the war." Omoide Yokocho is a place where you can enjoy a deep Shinjuku night while immersing yourself in a nostalgic atmosphere. There are many shops in a price range that even students can easily visit, so why not visit with a little adventurous feeling?
