【Ryogoku: A Town Walk of Sumo and Parks in Sumida City, Tokyo】
🍽️Ryōgoku Edo NOREN
🏖️Atmosphere/Facilities: Right outside the station. At Ryogoku Edo Noren, where restaurants surround the sumo ring, you can also watch sumo lectures by rikishi (sumo wrestlers). Here, you can enjoy Japanese cuisine that is hearty and luxurious as expected. On this day, I chose the "Asari Meshi" (clam rice). Photos 5–7

♨️EDO-YU RYOGOKU Super Public Bath
📍Location: 1 Chome-5-8 Kamezawa, Sumida City, Tokyo 130-0014
Town Atmosphere/Facilities: Behind the Ryogoku Kokugikan, in the wide area of Ryogoku 2–3 Chome, there are various chanko nabe (sumo stew) restaurants each with their own character. The chanko nabe course, which is the meal rikishi eat to build strength, will fill you up in one sitting. Ryogoku might be a town where families of four or more can save on food expenses.
🕌☸️Ekōin Temple Photos 8–19
💐Atmosphere/Facilities: Many memorial monuments are built on the temple grounds, but especially the animal memorial monument for pets and the pet memorial tower are always adorned with many flowers, creating a warm and familiar atmosphere despite being graves. "Founded in the 3rd year of Meireki (1657). In that year, the 'Great Fire of Meireki' burned most of Edo, and the 'Manninzuka' (mass grave for unclaimed souls) was established. Since then, many unclaimed souls have been buried here, so it is also called a temple for the unclaimed. It preaches Buddha’s compassion for both people and animals, and on the grounds, there are memorials, monuments, and graves for dogs, cats, birds, and various other animals."
📍Location: 2 Chome-8-10 Ryogoku, Sumida City, Tokyo 130-0026
☸️Sumo-Related Stone Monuments at Ekōin (Chikara-zuka)
"There is a 'Chikara-zuka' built in Showa 11 (1936) to honor deceased rikishi. It is a monument where stablemasters pray for new recruits to gain strength."
