⛩️Nihonbashi: An oasis in the business district: Visit Fukutoku Shrine Mebuki Inari, known as a shrine that brings good fortune

Amid the hustle and bustle of Nihonbashi, stands Fukutoku Shrine (Mebuki Inari) along COREDO Muromachi. As its name suggests, it was once worshipped as an Inari in the former Fukutoku Village and is a historic shrine established during the Jōgan era of the Heian period (859–876) .

On the day I visited, the moment I passed through the vermilion torii gate, I was enveloped in a serene atmosphere that contrasted sharply with the city's noise. The shrine building appears to be wooden, but I learned it is constructed with fire-resistant steel framed beautifully with Yoshino cypress, which impressed me as a modern innovation .

Historically, it was highly revered by powerful warlords such as Ota Dokan and Tokugawa Ieyasu, and it is said that the reputation for blessings spread after Ieyasu prayed here . During the Edo period, the government-sanctioned "Tomi-kuji" (a precursor to the lottery) was held here, and it continues to attract worshippers as a "shrine that brings good fortune" .

When I visited, I also saw Johnny’s fans and people seeking live concert tickets. Unique charms like the "Ticket Winning Prayer Festival" and "Tomi-kuji Amulet" are popular, making it a true power spot alive in the city .

After worshipping, I purified myself at the modest temizuya (water pavilion) attached to the shrine office, and my heart naturally calmed. Though the visit was brief, I experienced a mysterious and peaceful sense of happiness.
