One of Tokyo's iconic landmarks is undoubtedly the Asakusa district, home to Sensoji Temple, also known as the "Red Lantern Temple." This area is one of the most visited spots in the city.
Sensoji Temple, commonly referred to as Asakusa Temple, is famous for its massive 3-meter red lantern at the temple's entrance gate. This spot is a must-visit for tourists who want to capture memorable photos during their trip to Tokyo.
Inside the temple, another highlight is the 64-meter-tall five-story pagoda. Within the inner building resides the statue of the Goddess of Mercy (Kannon), where visitors come to pray and make wishes. It is customary to toss a 5-yen coin into the offering box while making wishes for various aspects of life, such as education, finances, career, and health. Additionally, there is a large incense burner, and it is believed that wafting the incense smoke towards oneself brings good fortune.
Upon exiting the temple, visitors will find Nakamise Street, lined with shops selling snacks and souvenirs along the way.
