Hidden in the Taitung district, Imado Shrine in Tokyo is definitely a must-visit niche attraction for hipsters and cat fans. Imado Shrine not only has a strong traditional atmosphere, but also has a lucky cat as the theme. Various cat-shaped ornaments and guards are super cute. When you enter, you will be surrounded by a healing atmosphere. The shrine is open year-round and operates from 9am to 4pm. There is no need to rush and slowly feel the rare tranquility in the bustling city.
Recommended tour routes:
It is recommended to start from Sensoji Temple and walk across the Sumida River Bridge and slowly walk to Imado Shrine, enjoying the Tokyo Shitamachi atmosphere along the way. Upon arrival, you can first visit the main hall to feel the unique majesty of a Japanese shrine, then go to both sides of the shrine to find the lucky cat statue to take pictures. Remember not to miss the large lucky cat in front of the temple. Many visitors will take pictures with it.
Must-play items and photo spots:
The must-buy shrine-only lucky cat guardian or lucky gadgets are very distinctive and are suitable for gifts or personal use. Also, every spring when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, a row of cherry trees outside the shrine, with the lucky cat statue to take pictures, is a super popular photo spot! There are also many cat-themed horses (wishing cards) in the shrine that you can write your wishes on and then hang up.
Attraction tips:
It is recommended to come on weekday mornings to feel quiet and not so crowded for photos. Remember to bring an umbrella or hat when you go in summer. There is no shelter around, and heat stroke is more likely to occur in hot weather. Don’t rush and take your time to appreciate the details within the shrine, with many kitty-themed decorations spread out in different corners. There are a few convenience stores nearby for simple resupply or to arrange a day trip with Sensoji Temple.
Notes:
The shrine is not large, admission is free, and daily traffic is not much, but it will be more busy even on holidays or festivals. Remember to pay attention to etiquette when taking photos, while not making loud noises. Some special guards may be limited in number, if you want to get your hands on it early.
Imado Shrine, whether you like a small fresh or meow, you will have a unique memory!
