For those interested in the history of Japan’s industrial and financial powerhouses, the Kyū-Iwasaki-tei is a treasure trove. This was the residence of Hisaya Iwasaki, the third president of the Mitsubishi conglomerate, and the house screams Gilded Age opulence. While only about a third of the original estate remains, what you see is meticulously preserved. The interior details are incredible: original wallpaper, patterned tiles on the balcony, and fireplaces in different styles throughout the mansion.
