Tucked away in the lush greenery of Setagaya Park, the Setagaya Art Museum is a serene cultural space that perfectly blends art, architecture, and nature.
Designed by architect Shozo Uchii, the museum opened its doors in 1985 and features a striking reinforced concrete structure with two above-ground floors and one basement level. The building’s geometry — a thoughtful interplay of circles, triangles, and squares — creates a rhythm that carries through the entire space.
The atrium-style entrance hall feels airy and welcoming, while the corridor connecting the main building to the restaurant wing showcases varied design elements that make walking through the space itself a joy. The combination of natural light, smooth concrete, and the surrounding park’s greenery gives the museum a calm and meditative atmosphere — a beautiful reminder that art can live in harmony with nature.
