The Cathedral Church of St. James in Toronto is a historic Anglican cathedral located at 106 King Street East. Established in 1797, it is the oldest Anglican parish in the city and serves as the mother church of the Diocese of Toronto.

Historical Significance

The cathedral’s first wooden structure was built in 1807 and served as a hospital during the War of 1812. The current Gothic Revival building, designed by Frederick William Cumberland and Thomas Ridout, was completed in 1853 after several reconstructions due to fires. Its tower and spire, completed in 1874, were among the tallest structures in Canada at the time.
