Tottori Day Trip (Sand Dunes • Harbor • Koyamaike Park)

Start early in the morning from Kyoto and take the JR line to Tottori.

Tottori Sand Dunes, located in the San'in Kaigan Geopark, span 2.4 kilometers north to south and 16 kilometers east to west, making them Japan's largest coastal sand dunes. With over 100,000 years of history, the dunes were formed by powerful ocean currents carrying sediments from the Sea of Japan to the shore. The strong sea winds continuously shape and reshape the dunes, some of which reach heights of up to 50 meters. Sitting on the dunes, facing the sea, and letting the sea breeze caress your face, you can quietly feel the healing power of nature.

Tottori Harbor offers beautiful scenery. If you have time, take a stroll along the embankment and enjoy the coastal views.

Koyamaike is a lake formed by the accumulation of sediments in a bay, and the adjacent Koyamaike Park is a natural park planted with local vegetation, offering different landscapes throughout the year.
