Attractions: Lake Toya Observatory (Silo Observatory/Siro Observatory) 📍Address: 3-5, Nariko, Toyako-cho, Abuta-gun, Hokkaido 🕰️Business hours: 08:30–17:00 💞Recommendation reason:
Lake Toya Observatory (Silo Observatory/Siro Observatory) is the only way to Lake Toya. It is located on the west bank of Lake Toya. It is a place where you can enjoy the panoramic view of Lake Toya. If the weather is good, you can also see Mount Usu, Showa Shinzan, and even Mount Yotei. There are also cafes and shops next to it. Be sure to buy extra-rich yogurt and white balloon pudding.
Transportation strategy: Self-driving and joining a one-day tour group are the most convenient means of transportation. Or take a bus from the Toyako Bus Center to the Silo Observatory (bus stop name: Observatory), which is not frequent.
Passing through the gift shop is the Toyako Observatory, which is called the Silo Observatory in Japanese. It is located on the top of a mountain and the building design resembles a huge wooden silo, hence the name. There are trails and viewing platforms next to the observation deck, and some facilities are closed in winter. Before leaving, go to the store to buy balloon pudding. When eating, pierce the film to reveal the entire white pudding. The thick and smooth milk tastes fresh and mellow, sweet but not greasy. There is also yogurt that is so thick that you can't suck it up with a straw. The peach strawberry flavor is rich but not greasy, and the price is reasonable. You must try it.
