The Toyama City Glass Museum, located in the TOYAMA Kirari building in Toyama, combines an art gallery and a library and is an amazing landmark. The biggest highlight of the museum is that in addition to the ingenious wooden architectural design, there is also a large exhibition of light, shadow and glass works. Whether day or night, the entire space is light and beautiful under the glass.
Recommended tour routes:
First, you can visit the lobby to feel the architectural atmosphere of wood and glass blending. It is highly recommended to be sure to pay a small entrance fee and walk up to the 3rd and 5th floors to enjoy the glass exhibits. The exhibits are beautifully designed, especially the multi-colored glass balls placed on a wooden boat-shaped display stand under night lighting. While viewing the exhibits, there are light and shadow changes in several corners of the pavilion, making it beautiful to take pictures at any time.
Must-play items and photo spots:
1. The glass ball display area in the Glass Gallery - the most beautiful light and shadow effects at night, is a must-take photo spot.
2. Wooden structure floor staircase – a must for architecture enthusiasts to enjoy the architectural details up close.
3. Ground Floor Model – If you enter before 5pm, there will be a movable pavilion model on the ground floor, worth keeping an eye on and taking a short video.
Tips and Notes:
- It is recommended to reserve at least 1.5-2 hours to enjoy slowly.
- In line with the opening hours of the museum (note irregular closures), enter before 17:30 or 19:30, the safest choice is Friday or Saturday night to go, have a chance to see the night view effect.
- No need to worry about language issues, the exhibition hall has enough introduction in English and Japanese for a friendly visitor experience.
- There is also the Toyama Municipal Library, where you can visit the 2nd floor and feel another kind of tranquil space for book lovers.
- There is a Cafe in the museum (you can take a break), but you can't bring outside food.
