Tekes | A small town that surprised me

During the Ili loop trip, we stayed in Tekes for two nights due to the itinerary. Every evening, I walked around the city with my friends. This unfamiliar place gave us unexpected surprises.

✨ City Impression
1️⃣ Tekes is built in the shape of Bagua, with a unique street layout. There are no traffic lights in the city, but the traffic is still smooth. Vehicles always give way to pedestrians. The whole city is clean and tidy, making people feel comfortable.
2️⃣ The local residents are very friendly. Whether asking for directions or shopping, you can feel their sincere enthusiasm.

🌸 Favorite Places
[1] Lifu Courtyard Bagua Red Commune Museum: Small in size but unique in character. I stumbled upon it while walking along Li Street. The furnishings inside reproduced the scenes of the commune period. The strong sense of the times made people feel like traveling through time and space.
[2] Li Street: It consists of several commercial streets, bringing together specialty products, cultural and creative items and authentic food. Strolling through the streets, you can not only experience the exotic customs, but also immerse yourself in this colorful world. [3] Night at Bagua City: Although it was rainy, the lights were already lit up at 9 o'clock in the evening. There were shops on both sides, and there were singing and dancing performances. The crowds were bustling in the night, which was a unique style. 🌸 A little regrettable: Taiji Altar Viewing: You need to buy a ticket to go up to the third floor (seniors are free). The museums on the first and second floors display the history of the city. Although the third floor overlooks Tekes, the view is limited to a height that does not fully show the full view of Bagua City, which is a bit not worth the price. 🌸 Food Exploration [1] Qiao Zhenyuan: Breakfast choice for two consecutive days, the environment is clean and the food is tempting. I especially recommend beef buns and pumpkin buns, paired with soy milk or porridge, and a few cold dishes. The ingredients are fresh and the prices are reasonable. [2] Zhencifang Xinjiang Rice Noodles: Very different from the Beijing style, the fried rice noodles here are more fresh and smooth, with a rich sauce flavor and just the right amount of spiciness. [3] Grilled Naan: Any small shop is worth trying. The more you chew, the more fragrant the noodles become. [4] Gulandam and Muma Ice Cream: I finally got to taste the Gulandam that I missed in Yining, and I also tried Muma's version. The latter is more cost-effective and has a richer milk flavor. [5] Sirdasi BBQ Restaurant: The owner of the B&B highly recommended it, but it was closed on the day I visited. I turned this regret into a recommendation and look forward to you trying it for me. 💡 Practical Tips: Tekes is not a large city, and taxis are the main mode of transportation. It is difficult to get a Didi car. If some scenic spots are closed, you may want to stay here for a day or two to experience this underrated treasure town. Most people use it as a stopover, missing out on the vibrant atmosphere of the city.

📍 Recommended In-City Activities:
・Off-Street: A unique Xinjiang destination perfect for leisurely exploration, experiencing the life of ethnic minorities, and shopping for local specialties and cultural goods.
・Tai Chi Altar: 20 yuan admission, offering panoramic views of Bagua City. If you're traveling with a drone, please register it with the police station.
・Never-Sleeping City: No admission required, like a Xinjiang version of the Tang Dynasty's Never-Sleeping City. Spectacular performances and diverse ethnic dances are a feast for the eyes, and you can also sample authentic local cuisine.

📍 Suburban Activities:
・Atchabis Village: 9 kilometers from the city, this village offers a more pristine nomadic atmosphere than the vast grasslands. Floating green fields offer distant views of snow-capped mountains and panoramic views of Bagua City. If you have more time, enjoy a bike ride and experience the leisurely pace of the countryside.

📍 Surrounding Grasslands:
・Aktas Girl Peak: 75 yuan admission, 12 kilometers from the city. Although less well-known, the scenery rivals that of Kalajun, a hidden gem among locals.

Qiongkushitai: 90 kilometers from the city, free admission. Wooden cabins dot the forest, and riding through them feels like stepping into a fairytale.

Kalajun: 160 yuan admission, 25 kilometers from the city. Hailed as the "King of Grasslands" by National Geographic, the lush green "Human Grassland" in summer offers breathtakingly beautiful curves.
