[Nara Prefecture] Ryuo-ga-fuchi, the pond where the dragon sleeps

Located in Uda City, Nara Prefecture, near Mount Nukai, also known as Yamato Fuji

Ryuo-ga-fuchi is a small natural pond in the mountains at an altitude of 530m

As its name suggests, it is a mysterious pond where the dragon god seems to sleep

On the side of the pond, Horikoshi Shrine, dedicated to Toyotamahime, the goddess of rain, is enshrined, and it is said that people have visited the shrine to pray for rain since ancient times during droughts

The best time to visit is early in the morning on a day with little wind

You can see the magnificent reflection of the greenery

Even from early summer to autumn, many aquatic plants grow , and it seems that the reflection is hard to see

The pond is small enough that you can walk around it in 10 minutes, and there is a gazebo and a wooden path in part.

Some parts are unpaved and muddy after rain, so watch your step.

Depending on the season, you may encounter vipers, so be especially careful.

In early summer, skunk cabbage blooms around the pond.

On the way, you will be driving on a narrow road only wide enough for one car, so it will be quite difficult if you have a large car.

There is a parking lot in front of the pond for 8 cars.
