[Kyoto Prefecture] If you're going to the ancient capital of Kyoto

Ujikami Shrine ⛩️
𓂃◌𓈒𓐍 𓂃◌𓈒𓐍𓂃◌𓈒𓐍𓂃

It takes a few minutes to walk from Kyoto City across the Uji Bridge.

The worship hall and main hall are both designated as national treasures.

The main hall is made up of three halls built in the one-bay style 🙌

Left hall: Ujinowakiiratsuko

Middle hall: Emperor Ojin (Ujinowakiiratsuko's father)

Right hall: Emperor Nintoku (Ujinowakiiratsuko's older brother)

Emperor Ojin, who loved Ujinowakiiratsuko, who was dedicated to his studies, tried to make him the crown prince, but it is said that he took his own life, believing that his older brother should succeed him.

On both sides of the worship hall, there are mounds of sand piled up in cones!
It is called "purifying sand" and purifies the shrine.
You must also see "Kirihara Water," one of the Seven Famous Springs of Uji.
While the others have dried up, Kirihara Water still springs up today✨

It is the guardian shrine of Byodo-in Temple in Uji,
and is registered as a World Heritage Site, "Cultural Assets of Ancient Kyoto."
If you go to Byodo-in Temple, this is a shrine you should definitely visit.
