"Silence in a big city where prayer lives. A place to touch the "heart" of Mongolian Buddhism"]

— Gandan Tegchenlin Monastery, the largest Buddhist temple in Mongolia, stands on a hill in Ulaanbaatar.

The official name is long and difficult, but it is a famous place that is known locally as "Gandan Temple".

This is a living temple that survived even though many temples were destroyed during the Soviet era, and monks still live and pray here.
You can really feel the atmosphere of a "place of faith" rather than a tourist attraction.

And the most impressive thing is the huge golden Kannon statue (26.5m tall)! ️
When you enter the hall, you will stop in your tracks due to its size and silence.

📍【Location & Access】
・Address: About 10 minutes by car from the center of Ulaanbaatar (can also be walked)
・Access: Easy to get there by taxi or Grab from Zaisan or the city center
・There are shops and stalls in front of the gate, so you can enjoy the local atmosphere

🕰️【Visiting Hours】
・9:00-17:00 (with lunch break/varies slightly depending on the day of the week)
・Recommended to visit in the morning when you can hear the monks chanting sutras

💰【Admission Fee】
・Foreigners: 5,000-8,000 Tugriks (about 200-350 yen)
・Photography is prohibited in some areas of the hall (especially the Kannon statue)

🙏Recommended Points
• Giant golden Kannon statue (Migjur Janraysag statue)
→ Height 26.5m. It cannot be seen from the outside, but when you see it from inside the hall, you will be overwhelmed by its scale.

• The solemn atmosphere of morning sutra chanting
→ The low voices of the monks and the sounds of Tibetan ritual implements echo, creating a sacred atmosphere.

• The white pagoda and the people praying
→ The sight of faith is beautiful, from an elderly couple spinning colorful prayer wheels to young people praying fervently.

• Even though it is in the city, it is quiet like a "different world."
→ There are times when you can only hear the chirping of birds and the sound of bells.

📸 Tips
・Enter with the mindset of "just taking a look around" rather than sightseeing, so as not to ruin the atmosphere.
・There are many areas inside the hall where photography is not allowed. It is best to check at the entrance and follow the rules.
・Around 9am is the time for the monks' ritual. You're super lucky if you can see it.

- There are prayer wheels (which are said to bring good luck when turned) lined up in front of the pagoda, so you can follow the locals and go around them once.
