Located inside the remarkable Fondaco dei Turchi on the Grand Canal (Salizada del Fontego dei Turchi 1730, 30135 Venezia), the Museo di Storia Naturale Giancarlo Ligabue is the main natural-history museum of Venice. It was founded in 1923 and takes its name from paleontologist Giancarlo Ligabue, who significantly contributed to its collections.
Inside, you’ll encounter over two million specimens spanning zoology, paleontology, geology and ethnography — including major highlights such as the full skeleton of the dinosaur Ouranosaurus nigeriensis, a section dedicated to the Venetian Lagoon’s ecosystems, and newly-designed galleries showcasing evolution and biodiversity.
Visiting the museum offers both scientific depth and architectural wonder — from its historic palazzo setting to immersive exhibits. The full price ticket is €10 and a reduced one is €7.50. The museum is closed on Mondays, and typical opening hours are from 09:00 to 17:00 (last entry around 16:00).
