Vientiane, the capital of Laos, boasts a captivating array of temples, reflecting the country's deep Buddhist heritage. Many were erected in the 16th century, during the reign of King Setthathirath, who established Vientiane as the Lan Xang Kingdom's capital. Though many succumbed to Siamese invaders in 1827, significant temples remain.
Wat Si Saket stands as the oldest, remarkably preserved temple, housing thousands of Buddha images. Pha That Luang, the nation's most sacred monument, gleams with gold leaf and is believed to enshrine a Buddha relic. The former royal temple, Haw Phra Kaew, once sheltered the Emerald Buddha and now displays notable Buddhist sculptures. These sacred sites offer a glimpse into Laos' rich spiritual and artistic traditions.
