🙏Phra That Luang, also known as Phra Chedi Lok Chulamanee (Lao: ທາດຫລວງ or ພຣະທາດຫລວງ), is a significant religious site in Vientiane and a spiritual center for the Lao people. With a history spanning over a thousand years, similar to Phra That Phanom in Thailand, Phra That Luang is deeply intertwined with the history of the lands along the right bank of the Mekong River. This site is considered a vital symbol of Laos.🌟
📜According to the legend of Urangkhanitarn, Phra That Luang was built at the same time as the founding of Vientiane. After the construction of Phra That Phanom, the builder, Buri Chan Uai Luai (or King Chanthaburi Prasitsak), the first ruler of Vientiane, along with five Arahants, constructed the stupa to enshrine 27 relics of the Buddha's forehead, which were brought from Rajgir, India. The relics were placed in a stone tunnel measuring 5 wa (approximately 10 meters) on each side. The legend dates the construction to around 238 BE. Since then, Vientiane has remained an important city.✨
In 2109 BE, King Chaiyachetthathirat, a great ruler of the Lan Xang Kingdom, relocated the capital to Vientiane. Six years later, he ordered the reconstruction of Phra That Luang, building over the ancient stupa. Upon completion, the stupa was named "Phra Chedi Lok Chulamanee" or "Phra That Yai" (commonly referred to as "Phra That Luang").☺️
