Pha That Luang, Vientiane

Pha That Luang was built at the same time as the city of Vientiane. After the construction of Phra That Phanom, the builder was Buri Chan Uay Luey or Phra Chao Chanthaburi Prasitsak, the first ruler of Vientiane, along with 5 arhats to enshrine the relics of the pubic hair of 27 monks, which were invited from the city of Rajgir, India. They built a stone tunnel over it. The tunnel was 5 wa wide on each side, with a 2 wa thick wall and 4 wa and 3 sok high. After the relics were enshrined, Phra Chao Chanthaburi ordered his ministers to build 5 temples in Chanthaburi or Vientiane to be the residences of the 5 arhats.
