From Athens to Vouliagmeni: A Perfect Beach Escape with Local Seafood Views

During one of my days in Athens, I decided to take a break from the bustling city and escape to the beautiful Athenian Riviera. Just a short bus ride away, I found myself soaking up the sun at Vouliagmeni Beach—a perfect spot for a relaxing seaside getaway! #holidayvacation #beachlife

We took a local bus from the Athens city center—either Bus 122 or E22 works depending on where you're staying—and in about 40–50 minutes, we arrived at the coast. No tour needed, no car rental—just easy, affordable public transport.

🏝️ Vouliagmeni offers both organized and public beach areas. The sand was soft, the water incredibly clear, and the crowd was mostly locals enjoying their day off. I loved that it wasn’t overly touristy—just peaceful and beautiful.

☀️ As I floated in the calm, turquoise water, I realized just how nice it is to experience Greece beyond the ruins. There’s something magical about this beach—close enough to Athens to be convenient, but far enough to feel like a real escape.

🍽️ For lunch, we headed to Sardelaki Me Thea, a local taverna that was recommended by a friendly Athenian we met on the bus—and it didn’t disappoint! With beautiful views over the water, fresh seafood, and authentic Greek flavors, this place was the perfect lunch stop. I highly recommend trying their grilled sardines and the octopus with fava. Prices were reasonable, and the service was warm and welcoming.

✍🏼 Travel Tips:
- Arrive by 10:30–11:00 AM to get the best beach spots
- Don’t forget sunscreen—it gets hot!
- Bring some cash for beach chairs or snacks.
- Book a table at Sardelaki Me Thea if you go during peak lunch hours.

If you're spending a few days in Athens, I highly recommend adding a beach day to your itinerary. Vouliagmeni offers a peaceful contrast to the city, and the combination of sun, sea, and seafood made for one of the most memorable days of my trip.
