Wakkanai is often thought of only as Cape Soya.
But how about taking your time and looking through every nook and cranny?
Wakkanai is where you can see the power of a small city that doesn't want to miss anything.
Wakkanai is a place where you can see the power of a small city that doesn't want to miss anything.
Day 2 of Wakkanai, which is too bad to end in a day trip.
This time, let's look around the city!

Address: 3 Chome-6 Central, Wakkanai, Hokkaido 097-0022

Accessibility: About 6 hours by highway bus from Sapporo Station. Cost: 12,060 yen round trip (based on online reservation)

1) Cape Noshappu

If Cape Soya is a “scenic spot that is hard to reach,” Cape Noshappu gives the impression of a “famous spot for us.” The sign is a dolphin that everyone can recognize, and there are many houses and anchored fishing boats nearby. However, the vast ocean and strong winds are not forgotten. It is a place that makes you think that people can live anywhere.

The cost is 250 yen one way and 500 yen round trip, which is cheaper than Cape Soya, which is 2,880 yen round trip, and there are many cars, so you can enjoy it leisurely. It is very accessible, so please visit at least once. The ice cream sold at the souvenir shop in the back is a delicacy.

2) Noshappu Korean Wave Aquarium & Wakkanai Science Museum.

This facility is located right next to Cape Noshappu. It boasts a low price of 500 yen for adults. The price is cheap + I didn't have high expectations because it was built 70 years ago, but it was a fun time with many experiences. I really liked the space, so I'm going to write a separate moment.

3) Wakkanai Station Souvenir Shop & Tourist Information Center

I returned to Wakkanai Station. At the souvenir shop, you can taste deer bread that you can only taste here, and snacks that are in collaboration with Alola Sixtails & Sixtails. Also, the tourist information center is distributing certificates for free of charge for the northernmost point. In addition to Wakkanai, it connects the easternmost, westernmost, and southernmost points, making it a large, unified certificate. It's a moment when you get greedy.

4) Wakkanai Port North Breakwater Dome

This is the North Breakwater Dome that is responsible for the direction of the port. The sight of the Roman-style architecture that is hard to find anywhere else in Japan continuing endlessly is quite spectacular. It's a good place for exercise or cycling practice because it's far away, and live events and festivals are also held in the summer.

5) Deer on the street

Deer calmly walk along the road like in Nara. The sight of the deer grazing on the grass of the houses and blocking the passage reminds me of a deer somewhere. Don't be too surprised if the horn suddenly sounds. It's not you, it's the deer.

6) Seondeoksa Temple

There are large Buddhist statues and tombs. It's a place more suitable for winter than summer. It wouldn't be possible to practice in the summer of Wakkanai, where the temperature is 20 degrees!

7) Wakkanai Park

You walk up a paved mountain path for about 20 minutes. The journey is not easy, but since it's not winter, you can somehow climb up. Once you climb up, you'll immediately feel the value. You can experience yourself melting into this place with Wakkanai and the sea in full view. There are various facilities, including the Ice and Snow Gate, but... since the subject is a dispute, it's a bit disappointing in terms of the park's atmosphere.

8) Former Seto Residence

This is the residence left behind by the wealthy Seto family of the old days. The daily life of a wealthy Showa era person is recreated in a large house. There are also guides who help explain the formation process and daily life, so you can learn and feel the retro atmosphere of the Showa era. It was also used for filming movies, so it feels like you've entered a movie.

9) Wakkanai Fukuko Market

We entered for the full time. There is a fish market, souvenir shop, hot spring, memorial hall, and restaurant. The memorial hall is about conflict, so it wasn't very pleasant. There is a Gundam manhole here, so it might be a fun experience for Gundam fans.

10) Chamen

This is one of Wakkanai's specialties. I was debating between Tako Shabu, another speciality, and I chose it because of the price. They sprinkle ankake on top of the stir-fried noodles, which should be similar to Tenjinhan, but it feels completely different. It was stickier and didn't go well with the noodles. It didn't suit my taste, but I hope it suits someone else's taste.

This concludes my 2-day, 1-night trip to Wakkanai. However, I want to see Wakkanai in winter someday. When that day comes, I will visit you at Moment.
