A Day in Nature at Launceston Cataract Gorge

I visited the Cataract Gorge Reserve in Launceston. Located just 2 minutes from the city center, its address is 69 Basin Road, West Launceston, Tasmania, 7250, Australia. Although I arrived quickly by car, it’s also within a 15-minute walking distance from the city center, making for a pleasant stroll.

Upon arriving at the gorge, the entrance was wide open. Admission is free, so you can enter without any cost, though some activities like the chairlift or boat cruises require payment. The chairlift costs approximately AUD 16 per person (round trip) and is worth trying as it boasts the world’s longest single span at 308 meters. Operating hours vary by season, but the chairlift typically runs from 9 AM to 5–6 PM. While the gorge itself is open 24 hours, lighting is limited at night, so visiting during the day is recommended.
