First, Wuhan is actually the collective name for three towns: Wuchang, Hankou, and Hanyang. The urban area of Wuhan is vast, often referred to as "Great Wuhan," so it's best to plan your itinerary by district to minimize travel time. For example, Hankou has Jianghan Road and the Ancient Guiyuan Temple, Hanyang features Guiyuan Temple and the Guqin Terrace, while Wuchang boasts attractions like East Lake, Wuhan University, and the Hubei Provincial Museum.🪭
Second, you must experience Wuhan's unique "breakfast culture" during your visit. When traveling in Wuhan, don't sleep in late in the morning, and try to avoid ordering takeout. Known as the "Capital of Carbs," Wuhan offers a different breakfast variety every day. In Hankou, we highly recommend "Yan Laoyou" for its hot dry noodles, shaomai, three-delicacy doupi (a savory pancake), beef noodles, and a wide array of breakfast options that will satisfy your cravings.🍚
Third, be sure to distinguish between Wuhan's two public museums. Wuhan has both the "Hubei Provincial Museum" and the "Wuhan Museum." The Hubei Provincial Museum is the more popular choice among tourists, housing famous artifacts like the Marquis Yi of Zeng's chime bells and the Sword of Goujian, the King of Yue. The Wuhan Museum, on the other hand, feels somewhat underwhelming with fewer highlights, making it optional.🏛️
Fourth, there's really no need to buy a ticket to enter the Yellow Crane Tower. As an iconic landmark of Wuhan, the tower can be seen from many routes and angles. The current structure was rebuilt around the 1980s and even has an elevator installed—hardly an ancient building. So skip the ticket (priced at 70 yuan, or 65 yuan on Ctrip, and reportedly once sold for 120 yuan), as it's quite overpriced. [Salute]
Fifth, beyond the famous attractions, Wuhan is perfect for city walks. The city has many retro neighborhoods built during the Republic of China era, which are great for strolling, sightseeing, and photography. In Hankou, check out Nanjing Road, Wuhan Art Museum, Lihuangpi Road, Jianghan Road, Zhongshan Road, and Chezhan Road. In Wuchang, explore Tanhualin, Liangdao Street, and Deshengqiao. [StarsEyeUU]
