A Buddhist Temple that looks like a European Cathedral? How can this place even be real?! 😱
Well, it's as real as it gets and standing strong right in the heart of a populous city in Central China: Wuhan.
This is Gude Temple, a European-looking temple complex in Wuhan. This is actually a unique Buddhist temple that features a deliberate and eclectic fusion of Han, European, Islamic, and South East Asian styles. Originally built in 1877 and rebuilt in 1921 with its current architectural style, one cannot help but to feel utterly disoriented when looking at such rare architectural gem. The main hall shows a blend of Greco-Roman columns, Gothic arch windows, Islamic dome and minaret (tower), traditional Chinese roof features (carvings and dragons), and other temple structures from South East Asia.
❓Why should you come here:
It's a very rare gem with a unique architectural blend. It's NOT a "themed" kind of attraction for amusement, it's full of history and authenticity for those who like to learn about the past. It's also a very photogenic place if you like taking pictures.
🚊How to get there:
Get off at Toudao Street Metro Station (line
 1) and walk for 700 m towards Gude Temple.
 🎫Ticket entrance is ¥13.
