In the early morning hours of Liangye Mountain, the mountain mist slowly drifted between peaks and valleys, like a never-ending dance. The forest path was wet with dew, and the scrape of my shoe's toe against the mud brought out the refreshing fragrance of the grass and trees. The gurgling of a distant stream echoed with the chirping of birds. Turning a corner, the view suddenly widened. Layers of mountains undulated like waves. Sunlight streamed through gaps in the clouds, illuminating a small, shimmering green shoulder. There was no ostentatious gesture here, only the steady breathing of the forest and the ancient silence of the rocks.
At the windbreak on the ridge, I leaned against the railing, letting the wind cleanse my thoughts. As the sea of clouds rolled, the worries of life seemed to be hidden in the sound of the tide; the long steps descending, their rhythm like a heartbeat. The charm of Liangye Mountain lies not in conquering, but in learning to stay with: learning to live with the slopes, the uncertain weather, and ourselves. Before leaving, I will hold a handful of the coolness of the forest again, like putting a quiet stone into my pocket - take it back to the city, and remind myself: There should also be a place in my heart where there is wind high and water low.
