Xiyuan Park in Luoyang, Henan Province, was built in the late 1950s and covers 220 mu. It is a classical park primarily dedicated to the cultivation of rare plants, while also serving as a tourist attraction. Located at the intersection of Nanchang Road and Jiudu West Road in Luoyang, it occupies the site of the "Western Garden" built by Emperor Yang of Sui in 605 AD. A stone inscription proclaiming "Luoyang Peonies Are the Best in the World" appears at the entrance.
The main gate of Xiyuan Park boasts a traditional Chinese gatehouse. A large Tang Dynasty sancai porcelain mural depicting the beautiful scenery of Xiyuan, dating back over 1,300 years to the Sui Dynasty, recreates the park's splendor. At the park's center lies a 16,000-square-meter artificial lake, its surface varying in width and narrowing. Nestled within the lake are islands, home to exotic flowers, trees, and pavilions. Curved and flat bridges connect the park's perimeter. Willows line the lake's banks, and cherry blossoms bloom in full bloom.
To the west lie rocky mountains and cascading waterfalls; to the east lie flat plains and lush flowers and trees; to the south lie the peony garden and peony corridor; to the north lie the rose garden, waterside pavilions, and terraces. From a vantage point, panoramic views encompass the lake and mountains, the greenery and crimson blossoms, and the sight of tourists and boats. The centerpiece of the garden is the botanical exhibition area, covering 45,000 square meters. The garden features over 28,000 plants from 120 families and 268 genera, representing over 700 species. There are also over 400 bonsai pots.
