Xiaolouxiang, Suzhou Historical and Cultural District

Suzhou's Xiaolou Alley, dating back to the Song and Yuan dynasties, boasts over 900 years of history. Baptized by wars and weathered by the vicissitudes of time, the narrow alley bears witness to the vicissitudes of life. Low-pitched roofs and deep courtyards hidden behind shikumen (Shikumen) houses are the last remaining traces of ancient, simple, traditional dwellings amidst the bustling jungle. Xiaolou Alley is the oldest and largest traditional cultural district in Wuxi's old city.
