Many people visit Abashiri in the winter to ride the icebreaker, but there is also a way to experience drift ice in the summer. The Okhotsk Ryuhyo Museum is easy to get to by bus, and it welcomes tourists with colorful exhibits and full facilities in a very modern and clean new building. The drift ice museum on the first floor explains in detail and with real images how drift ice is formed in the Sea of Okhotsk in winter and how it floats down to fill the waters off Hokkaido. Afterwards, you can see creatures living in the cold current and meet Clione. At the cafe on the upper floor, you can taste drift ice soft serve and shop for cute souvenirs. The rooftop observation deck is popular because you can see the city of Abashiri, Lake Abashiri, and the sea in front at a glance. It is a place worth visiting for its low admission fee. Highly recommended!!!
